Mountain Ride at Old Bowie Town Grille
Old Bowie Town Grille, Bowie MD

Greyfox Bluegrass Festival’s emerging artist for 2017, Mountain Ride, was forged in the Great Valley of south-central Pennsylvania, for the simple need to play bluegrass. For these five friends, bluegrass is a necessity. Hailing from the new generation of bluegrassers, they tend to bring a unique flair to the traditional, and a progressive twist to the original. Mountain Ride is composed of Eric Avey (guitar and vocals), Scott Matlock (fiddle and vocals), Corey Woodcock (banjo), Chance Hurley (mandolin), and Kate Avey (bass and vocals). With years of experience under their straps and strings, they have found something new, something that can only be described as Mountain Ride.

Barns of Rose Hill presents The Danny Barnes Trio
Barns of Rose Hill, Berryville VA

Danny Barnes, the roots music legend and recent winner of Steve Martin’s Prize for Excellence in Banjo, is teaming up with two young creative voices of the acoustic world: mandolinist Joe K. Walsh and guitarist Grant Gordy. This new trio draws on a wide array of influences, its members collectively keeping feet in the rock, bluegrass, jazz, avant garde and electronic worlds. Barnes’ output as a soloist and a master collaborator with the likes of Bill Frisell, Dave Matthews, the Bad Livers, and countless others has cemented his standing as one of the open secret greats of American music.

Joe K. Walsh has been hailed as one of the best mandolinists of his generation by the CBC and has toured extensively with bluegrass royalty such as Darol Anger, the Gibson Brothers, and Scott Nygaard. He was also a founding member of acclaimed Boston band Joy Kills Sorrow.

Guitarist Grant Gordy spent 6 years touring with the progressive David Grisman Quintet and his playing, according to Just Jazz Guitar magazine, rewrites the book on crossover bluegrass/jazz/flatpicking guitar. He has performed all over North America and Europe, everywhere from Carnegie Hall to Montreal Jazz Festival; Jazz at Lincoln Center to Bonnaroo.

Weekend Bluegrass Concert Series - The Chuck Wagon Gang
Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Herndon VA

Over the past 80+ years the Chuck Wagon Gang has proven to be history’s best record selling gospel quartet (over 39 million sold on Columbia Records alone) and their style has remained consistent through all those years. Magnificent four part vocal harmony with exquisite guitar accompaniment are the mainstays of their music. They say the apple doesn’t fall too far from the tree and in the case of the Chuck Wagon Gang this adage holds true as the current alto is the granddaughter of the original band alto. They are truly a magnificent band but more importantly they are truly fine people.

December 10, 2017 (Sunday), show time at 3:00 pm (doors open at 2:00 pm), admission is FREE.

Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 1090 Sterling Road (one block off Elden Street), Herndon, Virginia 20170. Holy Cross Lutheran Church is a barrier and smoke free facility.
