Submit your 4-minute bluegrass, old-time or Celtic video to the VIRTUAL Deer Creek Fiddlers Convention! Submission accepted May 1 – 31, 2024. Categories include guitar, fiddle, banjo, mandolin, special instrument, vocal and young performer.

This competition is judged separately from the IN-PERSON Deer Creek Fiddlers Convention, which takes place on June 2 at the Carroll County Farm Museum.

Explore the practical skills and thought process necessary to begin Neck Mastery applicable to Acoustic Bluegrass, Classic-country, Old-time and Folk music.

Learn to play above the 5th fret, take solo-breaks, play backup, appreciate rhythm and syncopation, and improvise. This workshop will expand your knowledge and understanding of the fret-board, all without tablature. Jam etiquette and playing well with others will be included.

This workshop will be tailored to the specific needs of students and seasoned musicians who know some chords and can play songs without stopping or breaking time.

Mayfest is an annual festival for all ages located in Strasburg, VA, showcasing local music arts, crafts, and food.
Come join Five of a Kind in their hometown on Saturday, 11 May from 11am -3 pm as they celebrate 44 years of playing bluegrass music in the Shenandoah Valley.

Eastern Shore Bluegrass has been providing local, regional and national bluegrass bands to the Eastern Shore since 1980. We have shows featuring a “main” act and local musicians “kitchen pickers”. Justin Heath, lead player of the Bluegrass group Cherry Blossom Special, leads a bluegrass & fiddle tune workshop. The goal of this class is to help students expand their song list while honing the skills required to play with others and be creative while doing it. Each session students will learn 1 fiddle tune and 1 song from the bluegrass repertoire. The class will go over basic lead playing and accompaniment to get started and offer some ideas to take it a little further with embellishments, improvisation, kickoffs, and endings. $25 & Materials will be provided for guitar, banjo, fiddle and mandolin. Greetings fellow pickers! I’ve been working to get another jam set up for folks who live a little further west of DC and I’m proud to announce our first jam will take place on Tuesday May 21st from 8PM – 10PM at PJ SKidoos in Fairfax. Currently this jam will be held EVERY THIRD TUESDAY to offset the Port City Brewery jam and the other jams around the area.

Hailing from Ashe County, North Carolina, Tray Wellington first garnered acclaim as the banjo player with Cane Mill Road, earning a 2019 IBMA Momentum Instrumentalist of the Year Award.
