The first and third Sundays of every month a bunch of musicians get together an play bluegrass songs and tunes in the back of the O. St. Mansion. Typically between 3 and 13 people show up, ranging from absolute beginners to seasoned pros. All are welcome and encouraged to keep coming back!

Open Bluegrass jam. All levels (multiple circles). The Farm Brewery at Broad Run is on a spacious, well laid out, farm with food and beverages available. The jam is held on the SECOND and FOURTH Thursdays. There is ample parking and a friendly staff. The Farm Brewery closes at 9:00 PM, hence, jam hours are 6:30 to 8:30 PM.

SMT holds a beginner friendly bluegrass jam every 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month. The jams are lead by SMT teachers and members of the band Cherry Blossom Special Nick Cameron, Mari Carlson, and Justin Heath. Bring your instrument and a song and don’t be afraid to take a solo. This is a free event but donations are welcome!
Gunston Arts Center, Arlington VA
Pinkey Swear Productions is reviving the play Bell Wringer, a bluegrass musical by local playwrights Seth Alcorn and Karen Lange. The show won Best Musical at Capital Fringe in 2023 and it’s coming back just in time for spooky season. Bell Wringer is an irreverent retelling of the legend of the Bell Witch, the haunting tale of a family menaced by a mischievous sorceress in the smokey mountains of Tennessee.
Bell Wringer plays October 22 to 31, 2026, at Gunston Arts Center, Theater Two, 2700 South Lang St, Arlington, VA. Performances are Thursdays-Saturdays at 7:30 PM and Saturdays and Sundays at 2:00 PM. Tickets are $30 and available online. A Halloween party will follow the closing performance on Saturday, October 31.

Lucketts Community Center, Leesburg VA
The Burnett Sisters Band brings a fresh, energetic take on traditional music to the Lucketts stage. Folks can’t get enough of this 2025 IBMA Momentum Band of the year nominee. The band is hard to pigeonhole: a hard-driving bluegrass number may be followed by an old-time fiddle tune, a Hank Williams song, or a fiery flatfooting dance number. The Becky Buller Band has become one of Lucketts most beloved acts. Audiences respond to her warmth, the sound of her lively contemporary bluegrass music and the band repartee. Becky was the first woman to receive the Fiddle Player of the Year award and the first artist to have won in both vocal and instrument categories in the same year. The Brothers Young provide an opening set. Led by Ayden (banjo) and Blane (mandolin), this hot band out of Roanoke bring youthful energy to traditional bluegrass. The Lonesome River Band is one of the most respected bands in bluegrass. Five-time IBMA Banjo Player of the year, and winner of the Steve Martin Prize, Sammy Shelor leads a group that is constantly breaking new ground. The band includes two top-notch lead vocalists, Jesse Smathers and Adam Miller. Mike Hartgrove on fiddle was recently inducted into the National Fiddlers Halls of Fame. Kameron Keller, regarded a leading younger bluegrass bassist, rounds out the band. We are excited to host one of the genre’s most widely admired and powerful bands.
